God's Silly Extravagance of Birdsong
A Woodnote from the North Carolina Trees
A small meditation for you from the woods.
Why did God choose to include birdsong in our daily reality?
He didn’t have to. But he did.
Imagine if the paths and parks contained no song. If forests always stood solemn. If the mornings broke open into silence. Maybe he knew we needed song.
On the sad days.
The down days.
The days when hope feels thin.
The birds still sing.
Do you hear that?
It’s a woodnote just for you.
And just above the treetops, the sound carries back to its Maker.
The world could end—but music would endure.
For we live in a song.
Adagio.
Allegro.
Crescendo.
A few years ago, I reflected on what it means to live as a “woodnote.” If you'd like to go deeper, here’s the conversation.

The sounds of birds have been a sort of grounding presence…a reminder that in the end all will be well. I remember seeing and hearing the return of Canadian Geese in the Fall of 2020 and it was such a comfort…the birds still knew what to do…a reminder that in Christ all things are held together.
For we live in a song.
Adagio.
Allegro.
Crescendo.
This is one of the most beautiful encouraging things I have read in some time. Thank you!
