Take Back the Summer
The Summer Slowdown Challenge
Someone once said you should not measure your life in years but in moments—the moments with the ones you love. How many summers do you have with your kids, parents, and best friends? It’s sobering to think about.
But here’s the deal.
We’re a culture famous for ramming our way through life. We don’t look back, we don’t change things up. We don’t get creative with our time and don’t think about how this moment builds into the next, into the next.
But we can change that.
A few weeks ago, I woke up with the thought of a “summer challenge.” The words “Summer Slowdown” literally swirled in my mind, and I started to sketch the idea of a resource I could build for our community—one that would infuse the summer months with newness and creativity.
As I was preparing to co-host the Foraging Beauty Art Workshop with my wife and dear friend Daune Pittman, I scribbled a contrarian’s idea of what it looks like to take back the summer months that can so easily vanish like an early morning June mist.
The result? A fun, revitalizing resource I think you’ll enjoy using.
It’s not an “online course” that costs hundreds of dollars.
It’s not an “online workshop” that you have to add to your calendar and plan a Zoom call for.
It’s, well, I just call it “The Slowdown.”
The Summer Slowdown
I built a 98-page magazine that contains a 31-Day life-giving Summer Slowdown Challenge, accompanied by three private teaching sessions on The Summer Slowdown Core Principles.
There are no Zoom appointments to keep up with.
No workshop jargon.
Just engaging, affordable content that aims to inspire and challenge your summer months in an invigorating way.
The Summer Slowdown Challenge
I built The 31-Day Summer Slowdown Challenge not because I like trendy dieting ideas or easy breezy beach reads. I did it to challenge myself to think differently.
To get off the couch. To try something new. To remove & replace the things that need it most in my life.
And I did it with you in mind.
It’s for all of you who want something new for yourself this summer. Not in a selfish way, but in an “I want to leave the status quo behind. I want to nourish myself” kind of way.
The Summer Slowdown Methodology
I built The Slowdown Methodology to get us to see the world differently and live with a fresh heart.
What is this methodology?
It’s a progression of living that helps us transform our perspective on daily living and invites us to engage the world through the imaginative beauty of wisdom.
The Summer Slowdown uses the language of “challenge” to inspire us to rethink how we spend our summer moments.
You’ve heard of different health or fitness challenges, but what about a challenge for your heart?
You’re sold a vast array of daily and monthly planners. What about a Soul Planner? You heard me right—a Soul Planner. It’s real.
Here’s what these swirling thoughts ended up becoming.
The Summer Slowdown combines a beautifully designed and easy-to-read application-driven magazine (“workbook”) with three inspiring video teaching sessions.
You can use The Summer Slowdown at your own pace. Breeze through it in your downtime. Listen to the pre-recorded videos in your car while driving to the mountains or work. No pressure. Just inspiration.
One of the key elements of The Summer Slowdown is that the 31-Day Challenge encourages us to “Chase Wisdom” on the weekends. The idea for chasing wisdom is a spillover from work on my next book, which you’ll hear more about in the coming months. So, you’re getting a behind-the-scenes and in-process view of this new content.
So, I invite you to click over and jump in. Get inspired, and make your summer slowdown-special.
