Notes from Our Unscripted Session in the Study

+ Realize how darkness works in your life to not just beat you and bend you but to make your life forgotten. Darkness is all about forgottenness. But Truth is that which is revealed. God is the One who reveals himself.

So, there’s a knowness about Truth that we need to remember.

What is the truth of you? How did God create you, and how does he want that createdness to be woven into your daily life? Who is that unobstructed you?

+ Understand the Woodnote nature of your life.

Woodnote: a song from the wild woodlands; a spontaneous, unique expression.

You are a spontaneous expression of Created wonder, an icon of Glory itself. Your identity as a human being is wrapped and sealed in your very createdness.

Questions to consider:

  1. Have you made decisions about your vocation based upon what you know in your heart to be true of how God made you? Or have you made decisions based on the “wisdom” of the world?

  2. Does the world care about your createdness? Or is it selling the simple message of doing what you want, what makes you feel good, what gives you pleasure? Is this the narrow path or the easy path?

  3. The path of identity is difficult. It was not intended that way. But darkness and sin have made it difficult to understand apart from pleasure. Identity does not relate to carnal desires. It relates to wholeheartedness. To get to that place where you see the unobstructed you—apart from the pressures and expectations of the world—is difficult. But it was made possible when God made a pathway to himself and his wisdom through his Son, Jesus. Spend an hour in your journal and write out the big events that mark your life. How do these events help you understand how God made you or how you walked your own path apart from Him (by the way, I do this exercise every year, complete with all my mess-ups. It always shows me how God’s hand guided me and how I lived in pride and did my own thing. It helps clarify how God is at work in the person he made me to be.)
