SPEAKER 1
Hey guys, welcome back to the Terrace. It's Tim. And I did one of these last week on Monday before we left to go up to Lancaster, Pennsylvania for Thanksgiving. So I had fun doing it and I thought I'd do another one for you. A little coaching session with Tim, I guess you'd call it.

Last week I talked about, you know, doing the thing. Well, this week I'm gonna talk about what keeps you from doing the thing. My wife and I recently, we've been talking about fear and like the fears that keep us from doing things.

And, you know, in the New Testament, you do hear talk about how true love casts out fear. And also Paul tells Timothy that God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but of boldness. And I think those can be taken to heart, even in a non-spiritual kind of way, where you are...

From Fear to Freedom

A Monday Memo for You Encouragement

If you’re new to The Beautiful Disruption, welcome! I love that you’re here. Lately, I’ve been experimenting with short video posts. Some I use as podcasts, and some I post as videos. Today’s video is a short seven-minute encouragement that gives you three practices I use to overcome fear.

I’d love to hear your thoughts after you’ve watched the video. What is that thing that you can’t find the time to do? What keeps you from doing it or trying it? Or maybe you’re on the other side and can share how you moved beyond the voices of fear and discouragement to do the thing.

A Note on My Fiction

Last week, I posted the Prologue of my newest novel, The Misadventures of Leighton Fig. Go read it before Wednesday, when I’ll post chapter two!

Read the Prologue

You can also read my first novel, The Tempest and The Bloom, on Substack. Click here. I will release it in book form very soon, so stay tuned.

The Beautiful Disruption is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.

Discussion about this video

Thanks, Tim! This is a helpful reminder, and a good challenge for me. Your point about movement especially resonates with me -- I tend, when facing a difficulty, to spend a lot of time thinking about it, though not very productively, and end up becoming stagnant, choosing to be a spectator rather than a participant (which is something I think you wrote a lot about in The Beauty Chasers). I have become more aware of the good that there is in simple movement; even if I don't know what to do, or where exactly it will lead, getting up and doing something has the tendency to create a snowball, and take me out of that static and anxious state.

I'm glad to know this isn't just an abstract thought for you, but something you're working out in your own life. I wish you all the best in your painting adventures, my brother! Keep running the race.

Best of luck with selling your paintings, Timothy.

I liked the video.. it helps us to know you better.

What's my fear? My fear is that I can't make my work sustainable and have to return to a PAYE job.

Thank you, Orla! I totally understand that. Praying that He shows you a way to make it sustainable.
